A wellness examination provides essential preventive care. It is recommended women begin complete wellness exams at the age of 21, earlier if the patient is sexually active. A wellness exam protects your health by detecting early signs of potential problems before they have had the chance to develop into something more serious.

WellnessExamDuring a wellness examination, your provider at OB-GYN Specialists for Women will review your medical history; check your weight and blood pressure, then provide the following:

  • Breast and pelvic examination
  • Pap smear to test for cervical cancer (see below)
  • Blood tests, if required
  • Family planning/birth control
  • Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases
  • Scheduling of recommended screenings

You should get a pap smear to screen for cervical cancer at age 21, then every three years between the ages of 21-29, and every five years if you’re 30-65.
